The First-Ever Wireless Automated Testing System for Tunnel Segment Safety Successfully Applied
From October to November 2025, the first-ever wireless automated testing system for tunnel segment safety, provided by Shanghai Hangding Electronic Technology Development Co., Ltd., was successfully applied in a segment testing experiment at Tongji University. The system completed the full-process testing of the ultimate bearing capacity of a 6.3-meter diameter full-scale tunnel.
The system comprises nearly 700 wireless strain gauges for data acquisition, over 60 wireless sensors for measuring misalignment and cracks, and four wireless laser displacement meters. All signals are transmitted via Wi-Fi, with a sampling frequency of up to 2 Hz (twice per second). The collected data is reported to a cloud platform and displayed in real-time on large on-site screens. Furthermore, each measuring point can be independently configured to automatically generate data reports.
